Too Little, Too Late

The recent news about the possible capture of JonBenét Ramsey's killer is but a parody for the phrase, "too little, too late." As one who always believed that the Ramseys were innocent of this crime, I am outraged at the way the media is handling this recent "confession" by the creep in his high-water trousers. It just adds insult to injury to see him getting all this media attention. And it makes my blood boil to think what this constant 'broadcasting of speculation' is doing to John, his son and the rest of the family. This onslaught of tabloid journalism is beyond shameful and disgusting.

Now that a possible killer has been identified, whether it is true or not that he is the actual perpetrator of this crime, the whole world is saying 'mea culpa' and expecting to be forgiven for having put the Ramsey family through hell on earth. The tragedy is not only that they have to endure reliving the horrible event, but that it is being done in such an insensitive manner. From the best to the worst of journalism, this recent clamor is too loud, too speculative and too loosely wrapped in "media ratings" to even be believed.

"Tonight, more revealing photos never before seen. . . ." "Ramsey suspect now on plane. . . ." "Do the facts truly add up?" "Suspect drinks champagne on flight to US." Sensationalistic headlines geared to promote TV watching, and that do nothing to protect the feelings of those who were personally touched by this horrendous crime. I don't know what is worse - the fact that they might not have the real killer, or the fact that they are so caught-up in all this heartless, mindless chatter about his twisted life?

The only redeeming factor in all of this is that it finally takes the focus of blame off the family and puts it 'out there' where it always belonged. Ten years later, the world is finally hearing that Patsy and John are innocent. But, the same thing is happening all over again - too much speculation, too much attention being given to every aspect of the creep's life, and just too much media attention all around - once again denying the grieving family any privacy. If John Ramsey 'has had it' he can't be blamed. Just how much can one person take, after all? I am just thankful that Patsy doesn't have to endure all this media frenzy - the same media that caused her such pain over the last years of her life.

I want to say to all you talking heads: "Shut the hell up. . . until you have something redeeming to say!"
